The presentation was made by Dr. Robert Schuller.
The award recognizes artistic excellence in the promotion of Christian values through music, film, and the mass mediums of the arts and entertainment.
Of the presentation, Rebecca noted: "I'm very humbled. It's affirming both of the personal dedication I feel to honor God in all I do creatively, and my belief that His presence in the creative arts should be upheld at the highest levels."
Since launching her career in music as an EMI artist in the 90’s, while still in her early teens, Australian born St. James has been a major influencer on an entire generation of contemporary Christian music. Both a Grammy and multi-Dove Award winning artist, her impact with both music and message has been global in scope. Her strong personal message on the abstinence agenda has reached over to mainstream media nationally, catching attention from print, to major television, to the portals of the White House under the administration of George W.Bush.
Becoming a best selling author several years ago with her celebrated book, Wait For Me (Thomas Nelson), now exceeding sales of 100,000, Rebecca has since authored more than a half dozen major books. Her latest book, Pure (FaithWords) made its’ initial appearance in the Top 10 on the CBA bestseller list in February.
Rebecca has recently turned her creative interests to film. She last month wrapped filming of the forthcoming movie production, Sarah’s Choice, her first leading role, expected to be released this fall.Joining Rebecca St. James as the recipient this year of the Schuller Award honor is acclaimed Hollywood film composer, Mark McKenzie, whose credits include musical composition and scoring for numerous award winning films, including Academy Award winning Dances With Wolves, The Patriot, Sleepless in Seattle, Spiderman I & II, Men In Black, Batman Returns and Goodwill Hunting.
